White-topped buildings, who loves the sun?

The Big Idea

FINDING: Most buildings have a dark top. What would happen if we painted all the roofs in white?

Full Description

Question (Science and The City competition):
We do research in green reflective buildings, the most feasible and quick way to reduce high temperature in urban areas, in cities like Philadelphia. What would happen if we painted all the roofs in white, a color that reflects heat a lot more than any black roof? We would reduce refrigerating energy costs in hot summers, reduce CO2 production (mitigate the global warming), at a relatively low cost.
